The Number 21 & Chris Brown’s Crawl

The number 21 appears frequently during the year 2009 in the life of Chris Brown. The song “Crawl” and its video were also released during the same year in 2009.

  • The word “CRAWL” under numerology equals 21: C=3 R=9 A=1 W=5 L=3=21.
  • On February 8, 2009, Brown turned himself in to the police following his domestic violence altercation with fellow entertainer Rihanna. February 8, 2009= 2-8-2009= 2+8+2+0+0+9=21.
  • On April 6, 2009 Chris Brown was arraigned for felony assault and making criminal threats. April 6, 2009=4+6+2+0+0+9=21.
  • On June 22, 2009 he pleaded guilty to a felony and accepted the plea bargain where he would perform “community labor”, receive domestic violence counseling as well as 5 years probation. June 22, 2009=6+2+2+2+0+0+9=21.

The Meaning of 21

*The 22 major Tarot cards tell a story of spiritual realization in 21 stages.

*”Robert Place proposes that the 21 major tarot trump cards (those added to the regular card deck) tell a story in 3 acts, related to Plato’s 3 parts of the soul: the lower soul of appetite, the middle soul of will, and the higher soul of wisdom. The story concerns the hero, called The Fool, who is on a quest for liberation from society and inner enlightenment and who moves through these 3 stages of soul development.”

*Number of the perfection by excellence, 3 x 7, according to the Bible.

*Symbol representing the unknown superiors or the great spiritual Masters of the humanity.

*Represent the harmony of the creation.

*Number representing the union of Trinity, whose result of their common action makes emerge the creation.

*The “21, the highest possible number of 3 in the corporal, is in relation with the spiritual and shows the quality of the renewal”, according to Eckartshausen.

*Number representing the maturity and the responsibility for an individual. It expresses also the notion of chief.

*Symbol of the person centered on the object and either on himself.

*It is the numbered representation of God and the Temple, and for this reason it is considered by the esoteric texts as a divine number or sacred.

In the Tarot card system Card 21 has the following spiritual reading or pronouncements for those who select or have this card given to them:

“Card 21: The World  Planet: Saturn. Positive associations with this tarot card: fulfillment, completion, satisfaction, joy, wholeness, success.

Negative associations with this tarot card: stagnation, lack of will, impatience, delays. The World heralds the arrival of your heart’s desire, whatever that may be, a time of achievement, recognition, success and triumph.

This card signals a time of enjoyment, of holidays and travel, time with loved ones, a fulfilling relationship is on offer and spoiling yourself with the material things you’ve been wanting. The World also marks the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.

Negatively, The World points toward delays and that you may still need to overcome some challenges before you succeed, so don’t give up so close to the finish line. Don’t be lacking in vision or feel insecure, success will soon be yours.”

In the Christian Bible, we also observe writings that show the number 21 to be a “sign post” of victory.  We witness the presence of victory in Psalms 21:

The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

PS 21:2 Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips. Selah.

PS 21:3 For thou preventest him with the blessings of goodness: thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head.

PS 21:4 He asked life of thee, and thou gavest it him, even length of days for ever and ever.

PS 21:5 His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty hast thou laid upon him.

PS 21:6 For thou hast made him most blessed for ever: thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.

PS 21:7 For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.

PS 21:8 Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee.

PS 21:9 Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

PS 21:10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.

PS 21:11 For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.

PS 21:12 Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them.

PS 21:13 Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.

It is interesting to note that Psalms are in essence poetic praise songs, which glorify God. When we look at the full title of Psalms 21 in the King James version of the Bible we observe that it states: “To the Chief Musician: A Psalm for David”.

Brown who is an established entertainer in the music industry may draw inspiration and benefit from reading the book of Psalms and learning more about the story of King David.

Please remember ” David entered Saul’s service as a musician”.

We see the number 21 repeated numerous times in the life of Chris Brown during the year 2009.  This includes the domestic violence incident with Rihanna as well as the song and video “Crawl”.  The song’s title under the analysis of numerology equals 21.

The repeated occurence of the number 21 in Chris Brown’s life can mean many things. But one of the meanings for the repeated appearance of the number 21 is that “victory is assured” if the work to be completed is done. As seen with the Tarot card system, “the fool” must go through the 3 stages of soul development to become the “Hero”.  Key here is doing the necessary work to successfully complete a cycle and be transformed.

Chris Brown born on May 5, 1989  is a Taurus. To be considered a Taurus the tropical astrology one must be born within the time period between April 21 to May 21. We see that the number 21 is even prominent in his astrological sign!

We can connect the dots between Psalms 21 and his astrological sign to arrive at a deeper understanding of what Chris Brown is being “called” to do. Psalms 21 which speaks of victory over hardship is associated with David of the Bible.  The name “David” means “beloved” or “of love”.  The dominant planet for those who are under the Taurus sign is Venus, the planet associated with love!

Whether it is under the Tarot card system  or the Bible, the number 21 can be a vehicle of positive change. Revisiting the Bible we are made aware of the dual nature of 21 and as such the reminder: “The Work Must Be Done” in order to win (like in Black Jack) at 21.

In “The Biblical Meaning of Numbers One to Forty” by Dr. Stephen Jones, he states:

To write twenty-one in Hebrew, they wrote two Hebrew letters: kaph-aleph. These signify giving strength as well as the strength of God’s grace to cover sin during our time of spiritual growth.”

Dr. Jones goes on to add:

When twenty-one is used in terms of time (as in a 21-year period) it is the number of trouble or distress (tsarah), during which time we are in need of God’s strength, offered by an open hand. When it is used as a number in itself, it speaks of the end of the distress. Thus, it speaks of the blessing at the end.”

Other observations by Dr. Jones include:

  • Israel entered the land of Canaan after 21 sins were recorded against them in their wilderness wandering. Yet the tabernacle had 21 coverings to cover all of Israel’s sins (Ex. 26:3, 7). So we see God’s provision in the midst of this distress.

  • Sin is always the cause of distress, because God brings distress in order to teach them the consequences of their sin. Yet 21 is also the number signifying the “end of distress.”

  • Likewise, the 21st time Abram is mentioned is in Gen 13:3 where her returned to Bethel after being in distress in Egypt.
  •  Jacob’s times of distress ended after 21 years. At the end of this distress, he went to Bethel and “called on the name of the Lord.”
